CHCDFV001 Recognise and respond appropriately to domestic and family violence (Melbourne CBD)
This four-day course will give you the essential knowledge, skills and understanding to work effectively with women and their children affected by family violence. You will have opportunities to reflect on your practice, and build on your knowledge and skills with current research and evidence.
At the end of the course, you will be able to identify and respond to victim survivors of family violence, and adopt work practices that support sensitive and individualised interactions with those affected by domestic and family violence.
On successful completion of assessment tasks, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for the nationally accredited unit: CHCDFV001 Recognise and respond appropriately to domestic and family violence.
Who is this training for?
- New workers in family violence services
- Workers in community, health or legal services who have limited experience responding to family violence.
What will I learn?
Day 1: Understanding family violence
Family violence terms and definitions, prevalence and statistics, common beliefs, attitudes and myths, theories of family violence, dynamics and types of violence, impacts and effects, and barriers to safety.
Day 2: Intersectionality and inclusive practice
Practice approaches, legislation, statutory requirements, mandatory reporting, intersectionality, systemic discrimination and diverse experiences of family violence, warning signs and identifying family violence, direct questioning, and practice with responding to a disclosure.
Day 3: Risk assessment and risk management
Introduction to the Common Risk Assessment Framework (CRAF), risk factors and red flags, asking about and assessing risk, intervention orders, assessment 2 – reflective activity, trainer demonstration, assessment 3 – role play.
Day 4: Worker wellbeing and assessments
Review of assessments and practice, safety planning, crisis work and long-term case management, referrals and information sharing, self-care, reflective practice, and assessments.
