Wellbeing, self care and worker sustainability (Melbourne)

Wellbeing, self care and worker sustainability (Melbourne)

The concept of ‘self-care’ in the workplace is often focused on the individual: if you’re not managing, then you must be doing something wrong. But a feminist view of self-care includes the crucial consideration of context. Caring for yourself as a professional is a joint act shared by you and your workplace. You do have to take responsibility for yourself, but you also need support.

This one-day training will provide practical strategies and tools for you and your employer to support your wellbeing while doing family violence work at a time of unprecedented demand and rapid change.

What will I learn?

  • Critiquing the concepts of ‘self-care’, ‘burnout’ and ‘compassion fatigue’, and considering how workers and employers are mutually responsible for wellbeing and sustainability
  • Developing a sustainability plan with practical strategies that go beyond surface solutions
  • Managing the increased demand on the sector at a time of rapid change
  • Getting aligned with your values to sustain ‘self’ through the unique challenges of family violence work
  • Using a trauma-informed and feminist lens to consider the impact of the work.

Who is this training for?

Specialist family violence practitioners in direct work and the team leaders and practice leads who support them.

What past participants say:

“It really got me thinking and reflecting. Excellent!”
“Engaging, on-topic and useful in my workplace.”
“The practical activities were really useful to put into everyday life.”
