Merri Health Victims Assistance Program

Merri Health Victims Assistance Program

The Victims Assistance Program provides support to access the criminal justice system for victims of violent crime (both reported and unreported).  The Victims Assistance Program can help with criminal justice tasks, such as: managing safety; communicating with police and making a report; access to counselling, transport and medical services; getting ready for court; preparing a Victim Impact Statement; applying for financial assistance; and getting information about the offender.

The service is open to people living in the Northern Metropolitan region (Yarra, Nillumbik, Moreland, Banyule, Darebin, Whittlesea and Hume LGAs) or the Hume rural region (Wangaratta, Mitchell, Moira, Murrundindi, Shepparton, Strathbogie, Indigo, Wodonga, Benalla, Alpine, Towong and Mansfield LGAs).

COVID-19 Update: All Victims Assistance Program staff are working from home.  The service remains open and is still operational; clients and professionals can continue to refer in via 1300 362 739 or vapintake@merrihealth.org.au.  All non-essential client outreach and co-locations at police stations and courts are temporarily suspended.  Outreach deemed essential is decided on a case by case basis.
